Caught on Camera: Gunmen Take Over, Rob Wells Fargo Bank

FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) -

It was like a scene out of a movie – men with guns storm into a bank, yelling at people to get down, as they rob the place.

Only that scene played out in real life inside a northwest bank Fresno on Herndon and Milburn Wednesday morning.

Police say the take over style robbery is unusual.

Most times, police say, the robber simply hands the teller a note and walks out of the bank with the cash, without customers realizing what happened.

But this time, it was much different and it was all caught on camera.

The surveillance photos show a frightening scene: two men with masks covering their faces, guns in their hands pointed at bank employees.

Police say the men ordered everyone to lie down.

In one photo you can see one of the gunmen, and people on the ground.

Police are calling it a brazen act.

“It is, especially at 10 o’clock in the morning, we haven’t seen something like this in 4 to 5 years, that’s the last time I can remember a take over style robbery,” said Sgt. David Ramsey with the Fresno Police Department.

“It’s really scary because I worked at a bank and that’s the worst fear you can have. Hopefully they were will prepared and followed procedure, because that can save your life,” said Marti Venasa, a Wells Fargo bank customer.

Police say there were four customers and six employees in the bank at the time of the robbery, and that they all did the right thing – they all did what the robbers told them to do, no one tried to be a hero and take them down.

Police say the robbers did not fire their weapons, and left the bank with the cash, without hurting anyone.

Police say the robbers were last seen going south on Milburn in a white, Chevy Malibu.
